UMaine Launches Bioproducts Pilot Plant

The University of Maine, in partnership with Biofine Technology of Framingham, Massachusetts, has installed a pilot plant capable of processing up to 1 ton of woody biomass per day into chemicals that can be used to manufacture bioproducts, including biofuels, biochemicals and advanced materials.

In scaling up production, UMaine plans to install an additional pilot plant and convert biobased chemical intermediates into commercialized products and fuels.
