Dissolvine® GL-47-S

Dissolvine® GL-47-S is a bioderived chelating agent based on the food-approved natural amino acid salt, monosodium L-glutamate (MSG).

Dissolvine® GL-47-S is a high-performance, biobased chelating agent derived from monosodium L-glutamate (MSG), a naturally occurring amino acid. The product is a clear, aqueous solution of GLDA-Na₄, offering superior metal ion binding capabilities across a wide pH range.

With over half of its carbon content sourced from renewable biomass, Dissolvine® GL-47-S stands out as a safer, sustainable alternative to conventional chelators such as EDTA, NTA, and phosphates.

Notably recognized by the U.S. EPA’s Safer Choice program, Dissolvine® GL-47-S provides excellent biodegradability, low toxicity, and an outstanding environmental profile. It enhances cleaning efficacy through strong chelation of hard water ions (e.g., Ca²⁺), making it a valuable ingredient in personal care, home care, and industrial cleaning formulations. The product contains less than 0.1% NTA and does not require hazardous labeling.

Applications

Dissolvine® GL-47-S is widely used across multiple sectors due to its strong chelating performance and safety profile:

  • Cleaning and Detergents: home care, industrial and institutional cleaners, water softeners
  • Personal Care and Cosmetics: skin cleansers, shampoos, and other rinse-off products
  • Agriculture: micronutrient delivery systems
  • Industrial Formulations: metal ion control in water treatment, coatings, and manufacturing
  • Biocidal Formulations: booster for antimicrobial performance

Key Benefits

  • Biobased Origin: derived from food-grade MSG; >50% carbon content from renewable sources
  • Readily Biodegradable: recognized as food by bacteria due to its natural amino acid structure
  • Superior Chelation: effectively binds di- and trivalent metal ions, including Ca²⁺ and Fe³⁺
  • Safer Profile: low toxicity, low ecotoxicity, and non-sensitizing to human skin
  • Non-Eutrophying: unlike phosphates, does not contribute to aquatic nutrient loading
  • U.S. EPA Safer Choice Listed and accepted by multiple international safety standards
  • Wide pH Range Use: fully soluble and effective across acidic, neutral, and basic conditions
  • Stable Liquid Form: easy to incorporate into various aqueous systems
