Susterra® Propanediol

Description

Susterra® 1,3 Propanediol, developed and produced by Dupont Tate & Lyle BioProducts, is a pure, 100% biobased, and petroleum free diol that can serve as the building block in numerous applications.

As a petroleum-free building block, and direct replacement for propylene glycol, Susterra® 1,3 Propanediol (PDO) delivers proven functional performance while improving the environmental, health and safety attributes of products in major consumer and industrial applications

For example, in the production of more sustainable polyurethanes, Susterra® may serve as a chain extender and the biobased component for polyols.

In anti-freeze or coolant applications, 1,3 PDO can protect against freezing, cooling, corrosion and cavitation in automobiles and light or heavy duty cooling systems.

Susterra has been approved by ASTM International Committee D15 as an engine coolant base.

Other applications include food safe heat transfer fluids, unsaturated polyester resins, solar geothermal systems, engine coolants and deicing fluids for aircraft and runways.

How it’s made

Biobased 1,3 propane diol (PDO) is manufactured in a proprietary fermentation process using plant derived glucose instead of petroleum feedstocks.
