Vivomer

Supplier: Shellworks

Description

Vivomer, developed and manufactured by Shellworks, is a compostable and vegan plastic alternative for packaging applications made from fermentation with microbes readily available in marine and soil environments.

Vivomer is designed to degrade organically without leaving behind microplastics. At the end of life, microbes abundant in soil and marine environments consume the material.

Vivomer can be produced at a large scale, is suitable for industry-standard manufacturing processes to produce rigid plastics, and is shelf-stable and compatible with water-based and oil-based emulsions.

This material is also formulated for personal care applications and can incorporate natural dyes for aesthetics without sacrificing sustainability.
